Part of my research process is to collect information on and break the whole market by customer type (see my Figure above for my forecast). Of these I expect large organizations (those with more than a thousand employees) to spend 4.3% less than in 2020. Medium organizations (-0.9%) and Consumers will also spend less (-2.3%). The only one of the four types to spend more (2.6%) will be small organizations. These businesses typically use standard software applications, PCs, servers and enterprise networks without significant spending on professional IT staff. 2021 is going to be economically very difficult as the recession deepens and government money for furloughing staff runs out. The recovery may not even start properly in 2021; but, whenever it does, I expect it to be led by small businesses, who have the flexibility to address emerging opportunities faster than their larger competitors.
