Claus passed away. He was a fantastic analyst, business partner and friend. He helped us all understand storage, loved real ale and jazz.
We’ll all miss him.

This is disturbing and sad news to read. Claus was always exceptionally kind and giving to me particularly when I visited the IDC London office regularly some time ago. He will be missed and warmly remembered.
I am very saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend, Claus Egge. I will be forever grateful for his friendship and support through the darkest of days following 9/11. He was a fabulous host in happier times on my many trips to London, whether I was alone or with family. He even tried, patiently, to explain the exhibits in the Tate Modern to me. He was a thoughtful listener, unassuming, and kind. In a profession filled with big egos and big personalities, he was the delightfully-modest exception. Always a team player and always professional, he was a true colleague and will be sorely missed.
RIP Mr Claus
This is very sad news. Claus was first and foremost a dear sweet friend. Whilst I have scores of professional memories, for me, Claus is the consumate renaissance man, his humanity, modest approach, caring nature and love of friends are the over-riding memories. Beer – we dranks lots of beer together – and shared many happy times. Claus leaves a gaping wound – unlikely to heal. RIP.
Very sad to hear that Claus has passed away
I am very sad to hear the news about Claus. He was an excellent storage analyst and nice man with whom I was lucky to spend many hours and days.
Claus was a figure in the IT market research analyst community, whose views and opinions on storage market developments and Belgian beers were well respected in the industry. He was a great colleague to work with at IDC. A great presenter, he had a gift for making snorage (storage) an exciting topic to any audiences. He was a fellow keen cyclist, touring over Richmond park every week-end. Claus will be sorely missed but I will keep great memories of him and I walking up and down Boston comparing the different local Ales and Clam Showder. RIP Claus.
This is so, so sad. He was a great colleague at IDC.
I dont’ know what to say. It’s sad. I admire his always friendly and patient nature. He went length to explain storage virtualization to me using the one analogy he figured a woman must understand – shoes and how to store and find them again. And yes, that analogy resonated with me. RIP, dear Claus.
An immense, sad loss not just to the analyst community but to humanity as a whole. Claus was that rarity – someone with immense intelligence and insight, but with humility and wit that made him stand out in a market full of egos.
I am deeply saddened on the sudden passing of Claus. Claus was an excellent person and a great head of team at IDC. RIP
I have just read the very sad news of Claus’s passing and deeply saddened and shocked that a lovely man is no longer with us. My condolences to his family and friends that he leaves behind. I’ve known Claus over the past eleven years and found him to be one of the most knowledgable of analysts in his field, a man of wit an wisdom and above all, an true gentleman. I have many happy memories of Claus, right up to our last meeting in March. RIP Claus – you were a good man.
Clause was a friend and a colleague. We shared many likes, but he was always non-plused at my dislike of beer – even the best of the best in England. I was fortunate to have recently seen Claus at an industry conference and will miss his genuiness and hospitality. I will always regret not attending a Karl Jenkins concert together in London – something we had always planned to do.
What a sad news to hear that Claus passed away. He was an excellent professional in his field, a great beer connoisseur too, but above all great company at those analyst events and conferences. I will miss him
Can’t Believe it…. Claus was a great analyst and a kind man… a sad loss.
I am deeply saddened to learn the news about Claus. While living and working in Europe, Claus was a great colleague for me. He was often available to review our plans and provide thoughtful advice and feedback. Claus always had a positive outlook, looked for a win/win solution, and was quick to share a story or two. I wish Claus’ family the best as they go through this difficult period.
Condolences to Claus’ family and friends. All of us who worked with Claus at IDC knew him to be a kind individual and inquisitive soul.
It is hard to believe, I seen him in June twice, in Orlando and San Jose. Rest in Peace, Claus.
Condolences to Claus’ family and friends. I did not know him well personally, but he was a fine analyst. He will be missed.
Claus was just a very nice colleague to work with. My thoughts go to his family and friends.
We’re all shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of Claus. Our thoughts are with his family and his colleagues. The whole team here, and most of our clients, knew Claus well and we all enjoyed working with him. He was easy-going and flexible, but also insightful with strong views on what qualified as true storage innovation, so he had our respect as well as friendship. And yes, as others have already pointed out, Claus was also a good man to sit and talk with over a beer. We will miss him.
A cold chill passed over me when I saw this news. Claus was always a great analyst. in fact, he was a true analyst beause he was always interested in analyzing disk drives or pints of bitter. I will miss this fine Danish gentleman.
So shocked and saddened by this terrible news. I have fond memories of many a fun-filled evening with Claus usually in the Champions Bar at the Marriott in Frankfurt after a day at SNW Europe and of random twitter conversations when he had just heard some new music and wanted to ask my opinion. A truly genuine “nice guy”, he will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Claus.
Claus – you will be sorely missed. You first helped me figure out what all this storage nonsense was about when i was a trainee tech reporter, and you probably couldn’t believe it when I first showed up claiming to be an analyst at various events. You showed me that it was possible to be a decent and respected analyst, and still be a nice guy who took time to enjoy the finer things in life. RIP
Claus could say more in one sentence than most of us could in a dozen. He was a very fine analyst and human being, and will be sorely missed.
The sudden and unexpected passing of Claus leaves us only with memories of his accomplished legacy. He was a good friend, well-respected analyst and strong leader of IDC’s European storage analyst team. My fondest memories of working with Claus are being part of the legendary IDC European Storage Vision/Forum conferences in Munich and the long-running Storage Briefings at CeBIT, which he ran brilliantly. We will miss you Claus!
Deeply saddened by the news. My condolences to his family. Goodbye Claus
Carlos Escapa
This news fills me with sadness. Claus was such a unique and lovely person, I can’t really believe he’s gone.
So so saddened by this news…and still can’t quite believe it.There are some people that you work with that you will always wish well and Claus was one of those. He was such a kind and genuine man, with a delightful and unexpected giggly sense of humor. He will be remembered for the lovely man that he was.
In a community this tight and where there is natural, mutual respect, it is always desperately sad to lose one of our own. It is even more sad that Claus had so much more to give. Yes, he will be sorely missed.
Claus, I’m so sorry I won’t see you at the beer festival next week, but I will have a beer for you there. Farvel og skål!
Claus, I’ll miss meeting you on the Thames, having a real ale, your soft manners and your friendship. RIP, the world is poorer without you.
So sad. So sudden, too – yet I can’t help but imagine that Claus would have preferred it that way: checking out in a no-fuss manner. I’ll remember him as a true gentleman and a font of all knowledge when it came to storage. Rest In Peace.
Very sad to hear this. We knew Claus from the London Jazz Meet Up.
